PRESS YOUR LUCK vs WHAMMY!

Let's face it. As times do change, ways of thinking and other opinions change as well. While browsing the internet tonight, I came across a posting to a newsgroup, that listed several changes from the episode clips we are seeing on the new ads for the show, versus what is going to be seen. Also, he learned about the differences between the classic "Press Your Luck" and the new "Whammy". This guy that posted all of this information attended a taping of the show, so he knows details the general public doesn't know.

Until now. So, here is a listing of the changes that were made from the old to the new, and so on!

- The clips from the new promo for Whammy are actually clips from the pilot episodes of the show. The contestants shown were from both pilots, featuring both Todd & Peter, but of course, GSN only will show clips of Todd and no Peter.

- Instead of whammies being indicated by a light on the right of the score readout, they "pop-up" like they did on the original show, except they are 3D this time around. The man that attended the taping said to "think of small stuffed animals popping out of the podium".

- The score readouts and the passed & earned spins indicators are larger now, and are easier to read.

- The monitors on the big board are now larger as well. (In the pilot episode, the monitors were only 26 inches and difficult to read on a television, but they were changed to 35 inch TV monitors now.)

- If the backdrops behind Todd look familular to you, picture Card Sharks 2001. That is where they originally came from. The contestant turntable was also recycled from Card Sharks 2001.

- On the big board, instead of photographs of the actual prizes like the pilot had, they will use icons once again. Some of the prize icons will also animate slightly when they are stopped on.

- Each monitor on the big board has both a red neon and a blue neon surrounding. The blue is what flashes around the board as it is spinning. In the event that a whammy is hit, the flash turns to red.

- In round 2, a "double whammy" was created. These are "live action" whammies in which the contestants are directly effected by the whammy. (For example, in the promo picture on your left, there is a whammy with a fire hose going way out of control. The contestent that landed on the whammy would be getting sprayed with water in the event the "double whammy" was hit.)

- There are some new spaces on the new versions big board now. These include $1000 or Spin Again, Move One Space (to 2 or 3 choices at times), and "Pick A Prize", where all of the prizes light up on the board. Also, for those that were curious, the "$2000 or Lose One Whammy" space, as well as the $1200 space in the second round, will still be with us.

- Continuing with spaces still making the big time, upon popular demand perhaps, the infamous "$470" space will remain in round one, along with a new "soon-to-be-infamous $740" space.

- He states that the new boards sound is "Very Cool" and "Addictively Melodic".

- MAJOR CHANGE: Round one is totally different. There are no questions in round one anymore. Players will alternate spinning until they hit a whammy or decide to "freeze". Hitting a whammy eliminates them from play, but in round 1 they have unlimited spins. The number of whammies on the board will increase after each of the contestants completes a spin round.

- The question round WILL still exist before the big money round. But now, 5 questions are asked instead of 4. Like the classic PYL, "A buzz-in answer gives you 3 spins, multiple choice answer, 1 spin".

- A commercial is in the midst of the big money spin round, eliminating the one at the very end.
